Walking through the Caldewgate area of Carlisle it seems a lot brighter and the road seems a lot less intrusive.

The main reason is that the row of shops and garage that once lined one side of the main arterial route through Carlisle has been demolished.

The motorcycle shop, the Chinese take -away and the private house have now all been flattened ahead of the building of the new Sainsbury’s store.

Big earth moving machines and a rubble crusher are now onsite to clear away any debris.

Towards the rear of the vast empty plot are the first signs of renovation as wooden forms are built to possibly shape a concrete plinth or other structure.

The next phase, once the land has been scorched could possibly be installation of groundworks such as power and sewage services.

Once these are in place the steel building structure can be put in place .

We have captured the change in the skyline over the last few weeks and have just updated our gallery.
